Chinese tea may become luxury

Chinese tea may become luxury in China, as it embodies Chinese traditional culture, and the procedure to make tea and the history of tea are mysterious, said Michael Ouyang, the chief representative of the China branch of the World Luxury Association.

According to Ouyang, the four main reasons for tea to become luxury are its long history, the delicate making procedure, specific tea cups and its cultural background. The reasons are similar to those of high-end drinks like French wine.

However, Ouyang said that China lacks a well-known tea brand. Most people know Pu-erh tea, Longjing tea and Tieguanyin, but these are just varieties of tea, rather than a brand. No famous brand means no standard. It will be the main difficulty for Chinese tea to develop into a luxury.
