Hou Yongzhi

Director-general and research fellow of Department of Development Strategy and Regional Economy, Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC).

He graduated from Hefei University of Technology with a Bachelor's Degree in industrial automation. He worked in the Tianjin Design & Research Institute of Electric Drive from August 1984 to August 1987. From September 1987 to April 1990, he studied in the graduate school of economics at Nankai University and obtained a Master's Degree in economics.

From April 1990 onward, he has been working in DRC. He had advanced study at the University of Pennsylvania of the United States between April 1994 to April 1995.

His research field mainly covers plans for China's mid- and long-term economic development, China's regional development strategy and China's urban development strategy.

He has written a number of reports and papers including Advantages for China to Stride across Mid-income Phase and Future Challenges, Principles and Suggestions for the Cultivation of New Economic Powerhouses in the New Era, Research on the Sustainable Development of Resource-Dependent Cities, Analysis on the Contradictions and Impact Facing China's Development, The Target and Strategic Measures for the Transition of Smooth Economic Development Mode and etc.
