A lecture entitled Sinology in Shenzhen was conducted by Jin Haifeng, the dean of the humanities department at Shenzhen University, in the municipal lecture hall yesterday.
Sinology means the study of China and Chinese topics. According to Jin, the subject can be divided into four categories: national treasures, quintessential elements, national cultural heritages and spiritual civilization. The core of sinology draws on reality by utilizing the creativeness of contemporary society.
The Ode to Virtue is a piece of music that vividly depicts Confucian teachings. The symphony was created in Shenzhen, which is known for its many wonderful contributions to culture since reform and opening-up.
In addition, a recitation of Golden Voice will be held in Shenzhen in December 2013 to help promote sinology through reading.
Sinology should be based on and adapted to reality. With the rapid development of China’s economy, spiritual construction is becoming more and more urgent. China needs to establish a new Chinese model to better interpret traditional Chinese cultures to the world.
