“Vision to reality, bringing future mobility to you”: Volkswagen XL1, Golf GTE and Electric-up! present the entrance of Volkswagen’s electric mobility technology into series production

In addition to the five premieres, three NEVs representing Volkswagen’s futuristic e-mobility solutions demonstrate Volkswagen’s commitment and action in achieving the harmonious and sustainable development of society, vehicles and the natural environment.

The XL1 is the most fuel-efficient production car in the world as well as a technical “lighthouse,” heralding Volkswagen’s future mobility solutions. With a fuel consumption of 0.9 l/100 km, the XL1 covers a distance of up to 50 km in all-electric mode. It’s an automotive hero that follows pure sports car design principles: low weight (795 kg) due to CFRP(carbon fiber reinforced polymer), perfect aerodynamics (Cd 0.189) and a low center of gravity. It challenges the traditional concept of production cars and shows the extraordinary charm of cutting-edge design.

The new Golf GTE with plug-in hybrid drive is making its China premiere. It rounds off the Golf series with a fifth drive type (petrol, diesel, natural gas, electric and plug-in hybrid) and makes Volkswagen the first carmaker worldwide to offer all the current pertinent drive types in a single model series. It also marks the integration of all the current pertinent drive types by Volkswagen. The Golf GTE, which integrates electric mobility and the GTI Dynamic, has a full electric range of up to 50 km and a hybrid range of up to 939 km.

Also making an appearance at Auto China 2014 is the all-new four-seat electric up!, which sets a new benchmark of efficiency for full electric cars and marks the beginning of the age of practical electric mobility. It realizes the dream new customers have for a technologically ready, sensible for everyday use, safe and affordable car. Tailored for commuters, it can drive 160 km on one battery charge. Electric-up! sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 12.4 seconds, with a top speed of 130 km/h.
