The flowering tung blossoms of Sanbao village in Tian'e county were featured recently on CCTV-13's The Blooming China program.
The live broadcast gave viewers a real-time looks at tung blossoms coming into full bloom in Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, shining a spotlight on the beauty of the area and providing a potential boost to local tourism.
The Blooming China has been broadcast for the past three years, with different areas as the focus year-on-year. As well as shooting in Guangxi this year, the production team also visited sites in Tibet and Yunnan province, as the program sought to highlight under-developed areas during the period of 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020).
Tung blossoms are a rare industrial crop flower found in Guangxi in an area of 80,000 mu (5,333 hectares). Sanbao village is also home to the characteristic folk culture of the Lanyi Zhuang ethnic group.
The program was shown on April 2 at 10:30 and 15:30 on CCTV-13 and on the following day's news broadcast.
