The pole-dancing grandma
A grandmother in Chengdu, Sichuan province, who has taken up pole-dancing is living proof that life doesn't have to grind to a halt when you're old.
70-year-old Dai Dali began to learn pole dancing four years ago at a local gym. After years of practice, Mrs Dai is now able to perform many difficult movements such as hanging upside down with one leg, ballet in the air, and splits along the pole.
She enjoyed the sensual moves of pole-dancing so much that she even had a pole installed in her bedroom.
"I like pole dance because I enjoy the feeling of gyrating on air," she said.
To showcase her skills and promote pole dancing, Dai Dali participated in various talent shows and was well-received by audiences. As the oldest competitor, Dai was also the winner of the Fifth China Pole Dance Championship.
Now Dai has become an Internet sensation. While some netizens applauded her, others thought it indecent to take up pole-dancing at her age since people are still prejudiced against pole-dancing.
Dai feels angry about this. She says pole dancing is just a form of exercise for her.
"It is just a kind of dance, it isn't a vulgar dance. And my family members all support me," she said.
"I want to prove that age does not mean anything as long as you persist," Dai said.
