Giant water lily leaves torn by coins

Tourists have a strange habit of throwing coins at historical relics or bodies of water, but this habit can sometimes be harmful to the scenic spots they visit. At a scenic area in Daming Lake in Jinan, Shandong province, visitors who threw coins to make wishes onto giant water lily leaves made holes in them, dfic reported on Monday.

The royal water lily leaves, which measure 50 centimeters in diameter, were riddled with holes, as visitors make wishes and throw coins on them.

According to the workers in the scenic spot, the royal water lilies were introduced from South America for the enjoyment of visitors.
