The recall is a preventive measure and targets all vehicles indicated by Toyota Motor Europe, Toyota Romania said in a press release, adding that there is the possibility that the pedal could be blocked in a partially pushed position.

"We apologize for the inconvenience we may cause our clients," said Toyota Romania general manager George Kyriazis, adding that no accident due to potentially dysfunctional accelerator pedals has occurred in Romania or elsewhere in Europe.

Toyota sales in Romania slumped 60 percent last year to 3,996 vehicles.

Since last autumn, Toyota has recalled more than 8 million vehicles worldwide because of braking problems.
