BUCHAREST: Japanese carmaker Toyota announced Tuesday a recall of 12,500 vehicles sold in Romania that might have faulty accelerator pedals.
"We apologize for the inconvenience we may cause our clients," said Toyota Romania general manager George Kyriazis, adding that no accident due to potentially dysfunctional accelerator pedals has occurred in Romania or elsewhere in Europe.
Toyota sales in Romania slumped 60 percent last year to 3,996 vehicles.
Since last autumn, Toyota has recalled more than 8 million vehicles worldwide because of braking problems.
