A Juneyao flight ignored Mayday calls from a Qatar plane running out of fuel, nearly causing a plane crash at Shanghai Pudong Airport on Aug 13, the Xiaoxiang Morning Post reported.
The East China bureau of the civil aviation authority released the news on Wednesday, saying the Qatar airliner, QR888, reported it was running low on fuel while hovering over the airport due to bad weather. But when the ground dispatcher contacted the Juneyao flight, HO1112, the flight missed the call, the report said.
QR888 landed at the airport after the dispatcher readjusted the landing schedule to avoid an air accident. The bureau said it was investigating the case seriously and will punish the responsible party.
Juneyao Airline said it will not discuss the case during the investigation and has grounded all of the flight crew for further investigation, the report said.
