World's top 10 gold-producing countries
Global gold mine production reached a total of 3,247 tons in 2017, five tons below the previous year, according to the GFMS Gold Survey 2018.
It is also the first annual drop since 2008, and the report attributed it to environmental concerns, and crackdowns on illegal mining operations.
China, the world's number one gold producer, retained its crown with gold production of 426.1 tons. However, compared with the previous year, China's gold mine supply reduced by six percent as the government escalated efforts to fight pollution and increase environmental awareness.
Australia, with a total production of 295 tons, ranked second, followed by Russia (270.7 tons).
Let's take a look at the top 10 gold-producing countries in the world.
