Dublin of Ireland was named the world’s best-performing metropolis, followed by San Jose of the United States and Chengdu of China, according to the Global Metro Monitor 2018 report released by the Brookings Institution, a Washington-based think tank.
Asia dominated this year's economic performance index, with seven of the 10 best-performing metro areas in the continent. A total of 103 Chinese cities entered the rankings of the world's 300 largest metro areas, with 21 cities in the top 50 and five in the top 10, according to the report.
With a growth rate of 7.2 percent in per capita GDP and 5.9 percent in employment, Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province, ranked third in the world and first among all Chinese metropolises.
This report employs two indicators, per capita GDP and employment growth rate, to assess the comprehensive economic performance of the 300 largest global metropolises between 2014 and 2016.
