Campaign aims to eliminate violence against women
The 16 days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign that starts on Nov 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends on the International Human Rights Day on Dec 10.
This year's theme for the campaign is "Orange the World: #HearMeToo".
Efforts will broaden that conversation and highlight the voices and activism of survivors of violence and advocates around the world — especially those who are often missing from the media headlines and social media discussions. It will showcase their stories, and their solutions.
Violence against women is one of the most "widespread, persistent and devastating" rights violations across the world, according to the United Nations—one in three women worldwide experience gender-based violence.
To draw global attention to the issue, iconic buildings and monuments will be lit up in orange, the official color of the campaign, symbolizing hope and a violence-free world.
