The gang under investigation is accused of having smuggled more than 75,000 metric tons of refined oil products valued at more than 560 million yuan ($80 million) into the southern province, one of the country's economic powerhouses, via the water channels in the Pearl River Delta since the second half of 2016, said the statement.

The special operation consisted of 46 organizations with 288 customs and police officers, 33 police cars and six vessels, the statement added.
