French President Emmanuel Macron spent a quiet Christmas with his wife Brigitte Macron at the fort of Bregancon on France's Mediterranean coast, according to a communique published by the presidential palace.

The place has been the official retreat of the presidents of France since 1968. Macron used it to host former British prime minister Theresa May to discuss Brexit on Aug 3, 2018, and in August 2019 to host the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
