"I built stages all my life, and now I just want to tear them down," said the play's director Chen Shizheng, who rose to fame through creating contemporary Chinese works in Europe and the US.

Jing Hai Shan was the first stage that he "tore down", as there was no boundary between the stage and the audience. The music came from all directions. Performers ran on the wall and even moved and danced in the air. The audience was able to listen and watch the play everywhere in the theater from a 360-degree perspective.

Guan Shan wrote the script, perfectly weaving the myths into the drama.

Zhu Yunbian, who composed the music, also created the soundtrack for Ne Zha, China's highest-grossing animated film.

Multimedia artist Leigh Sachwitz from Germany designed the videos for the entire show.
