The global game industry is expected to generate $175.8 billion in revenue this year, down 1.1 percent from a year earlier, with the mobile game industry creating $90.7 billion in revenue, an increase of 4.4 percent year-on-year, according to a latest report from Newzoo, a game and e-sports analytics and market research company.
The consoles market will decrease 8.9 percent year-on-year to $49.2 billion, and the PC game industry will generate $35.9 billion, a decline of 2.8 percent year-on-year in 2021.
Game revenue from the Asian-Pacific and North America regions will account for 50 percent and 24 percent, respectively, of the total this year. The Chinese market contributed $45.6 billion to become the major contributor of game revenue in the Asian-Pacific region.
The global game industry will break through $200 billion by 2023, and will reach $218.7 billion by 2024.
In 2021, the number of global game players was 2.96 billion, up 5.3 percent year-on-year. The figure will surpass 3 billion by 2022, and hit 3.3 billion by 2024.
The top 100 listed game companies generated $166.3 billion in revenue last year, surged 23 percent year-on-year and accounted for 94 percent of the industry's total revenue.
