Classic opera on female martyr staged at girls' school
Singer Wang Li, best known for her role as the female martyr Jiang Zhuyun in the classic Chinese opera Jiang Jie, visited Huaping Senior High School for Girls in Lijiang, Yunnan province, before the National Holiday, along with her colleagues in the People's Liberation Army Air Force Art Troupe.
They performed songs from the opera, such as Hong Mei Zan (Ode to the Red Plum Flower) and Embroidering the Red Flag, singing along with students and teachers of the school, including Zhang Guimei, a teacher promoting the education of girls in poverty-stricken mountainous areas of Yunnan province who is also a fan of the opera. Zhang was among the 29 outstanding members of the Communist Party of China who received the July 1 Medal, the Party's highest honor.
