Key rail port upgraded to speed up China-Europe freight trains

To cater to the increasing number of China-Europe freight trains, the station last year upgraded its container yard—where the cross-border trains goes through the reloading process from one gauge to another. The project, aimed at improving the capacity for reloading operation, built new tracks and bought more cranes for reloading from different gauges.

Now the yard has four gauges with Russia standard and three with Chinese standard, doubling the capacity for reloading.

"The maximum capacity (of the yard) is handling 840 containers in one day now," Zheng said.
