Chengdu event promotes 20th-century Chinese architectural heritage

The Chengdu Initiative on Modern and Contemporary Architectural Heritage Inheritance and Urban Renewal was launched during the event.

The initiative aims to raise public awareness of the core value of the 20th-century architectural heritage and its international status, as well as calling for legislation and policies to support its protection and promotion.

Experts at the event also announced the compilation of China’s 20th-century Architectural Heritage Report 2014-2024, will be afoot soon.

The event also featured two keynote speeches by Zhuang Weimin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and dean of Architectural Design and Research Institute at Tsinghua University; and Shan Jixiang, head of the Chinese Society of Cultural Relics and former director of the Palace Museum.

Sichuan University, Sichuan Provincial Architectural Design and Research Institute Co Ltd, and the committee on 20th-century architectural heritage of the Chinese Cultural Relics Society, co-hosted the event.
