All-women quintet teams up with vocalists for TV gala
Phoenix Returns Quintet, a musical ensemble comprising five talented young Chinese women performers, joined forces with vocalists to present beloved Chinese songs like A Thousand Miles of Moonlight and Chasing the Moon at the annual CCTV Mid-Autumn Festival Gala, which aired on Tuesday night. This performance marked the celebration of the traditional festival, renowned for its focus on family reunions and indulging in mooncake feasts.
With melodious singing and harmonious music, supported by the gala's dreamy, picturesque stage design, the five musicians brought an audiovisual feast to Chinese audiences worldwide.
Founded in 2023, the quintet, led by oboist Pei Jiadi and consisted of pianist Jiang Wenqiao, violinist Fu Yiqing, violist Song Rui, and cellist Tang Ruoxuan, who were trained at home and abroad, has been devoted to using Western instruments to interpret Chinese music.
They have participated in international events, including the opening ceremony of the Olympic Arts Festival in Athens in October 2023 and the World's 500 Brands Development Forum in Mogan Mountain, Zhejiang, in May this year.
They will also appear in the Feitian Awards, the highest honor in Chinese television, and the Starlight Awards, the top accolade in television arts, on Sept 21.
