The China (Sichuan) Second Ethnic Music Week opened in Xichang, Liangshan Yi autonomous prefecture, Sichuan province, on Dec 19.

Running until Dec 31, the festival features a rich lineup of events centered on ethnic music and folk culture, including theater and open-air concerts, ethnic opera productions, showcase of embroidery of Yi ethnic group, and master classes for young musicians.

The festival centers on compiling and presenting music from 15 ethnic groups inhabiting Sichuan province for generations, including Han, Tibetan, Qiang and Yi, while also including ethnic music from groups across China.

According to Liangshan Culture and Tourism Investment Group, the events aim to showcase original Chinese ethnic music works, as well as to establish a platform for the inheritance, development, presentation and promotion of ethnic music.

The opening ceremony and ethnic music gala featured well-known Sichuan folk songs rearranged to combine various art forms, including Chuanju Opera, symphony and electronic music.
