Safeguarding the Great Wall

Stretching over 7,071 meters, the Jiankou Great Wall has undergone four rounds of restoration work since 2016, with a substantial 4,250 meters already revitalized. The latest restoration endeavor targets 915 meters of the Jiankou segment, encompassing the restoration of six watchtowers and five sidewall sections. The completion date is set for the end of November 2026.

Cheng Yongmao, 68, is a Great Wall restoration technical consultant at the Huairou district cultural relics management office and the restoration project's technical director. A Great Wall restorer for 20 years, Cheng has reinstated more than 20 kilometers of the Great Wall within the district.
