From dusty roads to super stars
Uganda's Ghetto Kids to perform at the 2026 FIFA World Cup
"We can't wait to show the world what we are!" said one of the young performers, 8-year-old Busingye Josephine Daniella.
"We feel so excited to perform with Shakira," said Daniella.
"Getting outside the country …and performing on one of the biggest stages … it feels good and it brings a lot of opportunities," said 15-year-old Ssegirinya Madwanah King.
Dauda Kavuma, founder of the Ghetto Kids — a foundation that cares for vulnerable children — and a former street kid himself, expressed hope that the attention would help them raise funds for a rehabilitation and education center.
"We have that big dream … It's a very huge opportunity for the Ghetto Kids, for me, for the children," he said.
The group first drew attention in 2014, when five children posted an energetic dance video of Ugandan singer Eddy Kenzo's Sitya Loss, going viral after being shared by the singer himself.
