Twenty-eight chicks belonging to two hornbill species have fledged this breeding season in Yingjiang county, Yunnan province, according to conservation authorities.

Researchers at the Tongbiguan Provincial Nature Reserve monitored 25 hornbill nests in the Hongbeng River area this year. Seventeen of the nests produced offspring, with all 28 chicks leaving their nests, said Yang Zuwei, an engineer with the reserve's management bureau.

The babies were a mix of great hornbills and Oriental pied hornbills.
