Late artist's family donates two works to museum

Zhang Pin (1934-2015) was one of the most accomplished disciples of the "Li School", established in the 1980s by students and followers of Li Keran (1907-1989), the outstanding ink artist known for introducing Western chiaroscuro techniques to Chinese landscape art.

Trained at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Zhang studied under Li for years to master his sophisticated brushwork skills and compositional nuances.

Recently, Zhang's two landscape works, Qianqiu (Eternity) and Shuangtian (Frosty Sky), were donated by his family to the National Museum of China.

The former depicts a serene night at the Great Wall bathed in moonlight, and the other shows an expansive forest in autumnal prosperity.
