Premier Wen Jiabao said last week that China will have
another strong harvest this summer.
He could not provide exact figures
because many farmers are still processing their crops. But the encouraging
forecast is not likely to change, Wen said at last Wednesday's State Council
executive meeting.
Following the news, the cabinet called for an
expansion of the acreage of land planted with autumn crops. The cabinet also
called for measures to be taken to protect the harvest against floods and other
disasters that have plagued several southern provinces recently.
