China will invest 100 million yuan (US$12.5
million) to find traditional medicinal treatments for diseases such as cancer
and AIDS, the Ministry of Science and Technology said last week.
The
money will go to 50 co-operative programmes by the end of this year, including
international partnerships for the first time. These projects will work to
develop new treatments for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, cancer
and AIDS. "The new project aims to modernize traditional medicine," said Shang
Yong, vice-minister of science and technology.
