Traditional medicine

China will invest 100 million yuan (US$12.5 million) to find traditional medicinal treatments for diseases such as cancer and AIDS, the Ministry of Science and Technology said last week.

The money will go to 50 co-operative programmes by the end of this year, including international partnerships for the first time. These projects will work to develop new treatments for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, cancer and AIDS. "The new project aims to modernize traditional medicine," said Shang Yong, vice-minister of science and technology.
