Changchun auto sector to implement differentiation strategy

Changchun, capital of Northeast China's Jilin Province, plans to implement a differentiation strategy for the auto industry in 2007, in a bid to boost local auto industries, such as refitted vehicles and agricultural vehicles, and establish an integrated development pattern with First Automotive Works Corp (FAW) complete vehicles.

In the past, complete vehicle production in Changchun depended mainly on FAW, while the local auto industry lagged behind, said Changchun city mayor Zhu Yejing. The differentiation strategy will support FAW in complete vehicles, as well as the local auto industry.

In 2007, Changchan will increase the output of medium- and large-scale tractors and low-speed FAW light trucks to achieve a full-year output value of 160 billion yuan (US$20.63 billion) for the auto industry, a year-on-year increase of 15 percent.
