In a price war among Chinese online travel agencies, eLong Inc, one of China's main online travel agencies, recorded its first loss in 2013 after five years of positive income since 2009.
The agency's net loss for 2013 was 167.7 million yuan ($27.6 million), while its net income was 500,000 yuan in 2012, eLong Inc said in its full-year finance report.
ELong, whose main business is hotel booking, saw a 12-percent year-on-year decline on commission per room night in 2013, due to the growth of its coupon program, more group purchases and lower average daily rate hotel room nights, the agency said, although its hotel commission revenue still increased 41 percent in 2013 from 2012.
