Carrefour SA. Year: 2012
On March 15, 2012, the retail giant was exposed deceiving consumers by selling expired meat and feather-stripped chicken as free-range chicken with a two-fold price in a Carrefour supermarket in Zhengzhou, capital city of Henan province.
Carrefour apologized on the evening of the broadcast, and posted a message on Sina Weibo, a popular micro-blogging website in China, saying an emergency panel had been set up to investigate food quality.
The store was later closed temporarily as the company carried out restructuring.
