A new salt production facility has gone into operation in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, to meet the increasing demand in the high-end domestic market, according to the Guangdong Salting Group.

The facility which has an annual production capacity of 40,000 tons and includes four processing lines is China's first line in the industry to introduce the international standard of GMP, or good manufacturing practices, according to the company.

The facility will mainly produce high-end varieties including Aussie lake salt and low sodium sea salt, according to the company.

Construction of the second phase of the facility will begin this year with three more processing lines to be added at the company's Saibakou base.
