XIAMEN - China's top legislator, Wu Bangguo, has issued a call for more efforts to create greater awareness among the public on thriftiness and environmental protection.
Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), made the call in an inscription he wrote for a workshop to mark the 20th anniversary of an environment-related media program launched by the NPC's Environmental Protection and Resources Conservation Committee, in collaboration with major media organizations in the country.
The workshop also received a letter of congratulation from Chen Zhili, a vice chairperson of the NPC Standing Committee. Chen praised the program for its contribution to enhancing the country's environmental protection and expressed hope it will make greater contribution to building a beautiful China.
The program, launched in 1993, has inspired a large number of Chinese journalists to participate in its activities with major aims to expose illegal activities that caused environmental pollution.
