Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi received a certificate from Guinness World Records on Thursday to mark the company breaking a world's record in sales.
According to the certificate, the company was recognized for "the most mobile phones sold on a single online platform in 24 hours", as a total 2.12 million phones were sold online on Wednesday, two days after the celebration of the company's fifth anniversary.
Statistics from Xiaomi show that the total number of orders was 3.05 million, and overall sales revenue reached 2.08 billion yuan ($342 million).
"It has been my first time to break a world record in my life. I feel extremely honored and extraordinary glad," said Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi. During the awarding ceremony, he expressed his thankfulness to his colleagues and their relatives, Xiaomi fans and the media.
Apart from smartphones, 770,000 units of Intelligent Smart Appliances and 39,000 units of Xiaomi Mi TV units were sold during the day.
According to IT research firm Gartner, in 2014's fourth quarter, "out of all of the global smartphone makers, Xiaomi saw the largest jump by tripling its sales compared to a year ago."
Xiaomi shipped 18.6 million smartphones in the fourth quarter last year, behind homeland competitor Lenovo's 24 million and Huawei's 21 million.
