Mobile shopping in China surges in Q3

BEIJING -- Mobile shopping in China surged in the third quarter of this year with transactions totaling 43.34 billion yuan ($7.11 billion), data showed on Tuesday.

The figure was a 15.5 percent increase on the second quarter and a 141.9 percent year-on-year rise, according to a research report released by iResearch, China's leading Internet industry research company.

Mobile shopping is a growing area in the country's online business.

In the third quarter, mobile shopping represented 9.5 percent of the whole online retail market, one percentage point increase on the second quarter and four percentage point year-on-year rise.

Online sales promotions contributed to the increasing value of transactions, said the report.
