Food imports increase 11.2% in 2013

China imported more than $46 billion of food in 2013, which was 11.2 percent more than the previous year, said the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine on Friday.

The imported food came in 965,000 batches, of which 2,164 batches worth $240 million were destroyed or returned due to quality problems.

About $58 billion worth of food was exported, which was about 12 percent more than the year before.
