BEIJING -- FAW Car Co, a branch of state-owned FAW Group, which has its headquarters in Northeast China's Jilin province, will recall 15,798 sedans next month due to an airbag defect.

The recall will start on Jan 10, 2015, and will affect the Besturn B50 car models, manufactured between Feb 9 and June 30 this year, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said in a statement Wednesday.

The AQSIQ said there were concerns that the airbag control unit in the affected vehicles were not functioning properly, the AQSIQ said.

FAW will replace the defective parts free of charge.
