The heart of Shanghai will become the grounds of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo scheduled May 1 to Oct 31, 2010.
The Expo will be on 5.28 sq km of land in the Nanpu Bridge-Lupu Bridge region of the city.
The theme, "Better City: Better Life," was created to promote the city's 21st century status as a major economic and cultural center.
The Expo is expected to attract record numbers of visitors.
For the first time in the history of world fairs, the Expo also will feature a highly sophisticated online version called "Online Expo Shanghai."
Massive construction of new metropolitan rail lines to bring visitors to the Expo has been under way for several years.
Shanghai Metro Line 7, Shanghai Metro Line 8 South Extension and Shanghai Metro Line 13 will connect directly to the Expo from other parts of the city.
Other connections under construction are: Shanghai Metro Line 9, Phase II; Shanghai Metro Line 11, Phase I; Shanghai Metro Line 2, East Extension, and Shanghai Metro Line 10
All the lines are expected to be open well in advance of the Expo.
