A high-speed railway project that will connect Beijing with Taiwan was started Tuesday, according to Liu Zhijun, Minister of Railways, as cited on people.com.cn.

The Hefei-Fuzhou railway covers 806 km and travels at a speed of 250 km per hour. Hefei is the capital of central China's Anhui province, while Fuzhou is the capital of east China's Fujian province. "The Hefei-Fuzhou railway will better the economic cooperation among Chinese inland areas, Fujian and Taiwan," said Liu.

The project takes four and a half year, at a cost of 105.8 billion yuan ($15.4 billion).
