You probably wouldn't cast a second glance of the young woman on the street if not for the placard on the tricycle which reads "Wanted: Reading materials, magazines and auxiliary textbooks for pupils." Li Ling was lauded "most beautiful rural teacher."
During a summer vacation, 27-year-old rural teacher Li pedaled up and down Zhengzhou, capital of central China's Henan province, collecting second-hand books for the students in her hometown school that she had raised a loan to set up seven years ago, leaving her over 80,000 yuan (US$11,130) in debt.
Images of a lone woman drenched in rain, while the books were well covered in plastic sheets, went viral online in early July. Her devotion to the education of rural students was applauded and donations flooded in.
