Baby panda crushed by napping mother

One of the twin panda cubs born early last week in Chongqing Zoo was crushed to death by its mother last Thursday.

Ya Ya, an 11-year-old female panda, was said to have been exhausted after taking care of her baby for 56 hours without sleeping and fell on the tiny cub, weighing about 100 grams, during a nap.

The other cub was sent to a panda breeding centre in neighbouring Sichuan Province soon after it was born.
