College students more tolerant of cohabitation, few try(Xinhua)
Updated: 2007-09-05 16:19 BEIJING - Chinese university students are taking a more tolerable attitude on premarital cohabitation, but few of them have really tried on campus, a national survey has said. It shows that 28.4 percent university students said they support cohabitation with the other sex, 13.5 percent against it, while 57.6 percent said they are okay with it if they meet the right person. The survey cited by the Sexuality Report of Guangdong Province and published on Tuesday covers 24 provinces and municipalities with more than 2,000 college students. Tuesday's China Youth Daily said another survey covering 800 university students in Xi'an in Shaanxi Province shows that only 7 percent claimed they actually lived with the opposite sex. When asked if they want to marry a non-virgin girlfriend, 53.4 percent male students said "no". The Guangdong sexuality report said that cohabitation is likely to brings negative effects to student's physical and mental health and even causes hidden dangers to their future marriage. More than 62 percent girls students who admitted they had lived with a boy said they regret having committed the irreversible premarital sexual behavior. |
