Updated: 2008-06-06 07:28 SOFIA -- The Bulgarian government decided Thursday to allocate 100,000 euro as humanitarian aid to China in order to help it deal with the consequences of the earthquake that recently hit the Asian country, the government's information service said. Meanwhile, the Bulgarian government will also aid Myanmar, which was hit badly by the Nargis Cyclone, with 50,000 euro for the relief efforts. The funds for the relief in China will be transferred to the Chinese authorities, whereas those destined to Myanmar will be channeled through an appropriate multilateral mechanism within the UN or the EU structure. Bulgaria's joining the two humanitarian operations in the wake of the devastating earthquake in China on May 12 and the May 3 hurricane in Myanmar is part of this country's policy of involvement in the international cooperation for development, indispensable part of which is humanitarian aid, said the press release. The money to be allocated to the relief efforts in the two Asian countries will come from the state budget funds designated for official development aid. |
