BEIJING -- A Chinese mainland official hailed here Tuesday the decision by relevant department of Taiwan to resume station of correspondents with Xinhua News Agency and the People's Daily in Taiwan soon.

"We welcome the decision," said Ye Kedong, vice director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, at a cross-Strait broadcast seminar held in Beijing.

Ye also promised that his office would continue to provide good services for Taiwan correspondents coming to cover the mainland.

"Currently, our work will focus on assisting media from both sides of the Taiwan Strait to cover news relating to and preparations for the Olympics," said Ye.

The Taiwan authorities suspended reporting activities by the Xinhua News Agency and the People's Daily correspondents on the island in April, 2005.
