Official arrested for robbery, sent for psychological analysis

Yu Haibin, 38, vice-director of the Party's united front work department in Tiexi district admitted committing 11 other robberies over a five-year period when arrested, Beijing News said on Monday. Police found more than 10,000 yuan ($1,460) in cash and six cell phones in his home. Sources said the provincial police department had sent Yu for psychological analysis. All his victims were women. He did not spend the money or sell the goods from his robberies, but instead recorded them in a file. On the night of May 30, Yu attacked the TV presenter from behind and tried to grab her handbag. When she resisted, he hit her. He took her handbag and a cell phone, and made good his escape on a bicycle. The woman reported to police, and they kept calling her cell phone number. To their surprise, Yu answered three days after the robbery and said the woman "had gone to bed". The police located Yu's address and arrested him on June 2. Police investigations revealed that Yu's wife is a senior high school teacher earning a good salary. She often teaches at a night schools and Yu used to pick her up on his cycle. He committed most of the robberies while on his way to pick up his wife. |
