China's Vice President meets Hong Kong personages

On Monday afternoon when meeting with representatives from all walks of life in Hong Kong at the Harbour Plaza Hotel where he stayed, Xi said that after the strong earthquake, people of all ethnic groups in the country staged a rescue and relief campaign under the leadership of the Central Government. The government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and Hong Kong compatriots rendered strong support for the relief and rescue work through abundant donation, demonstrating the profound feeling of the Hong Kong compatriots for the mainland people who share the strongest blood ties, the vice president said. He expressed his sincere thanks to all sectors of Hong Kong people on behalf of the Central Government and disaster-stricken people in Sichuan. Xi encouraged Hong Kong people to strengthen unity, be self-reliant, continue to actively support the chief executive and the government of HKSAR in administration in accordance with law, and consolidate and develop hard-won prosperity and stability in Hong Kong. Liao Hui, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and HKSAR Chief Executive Donald Tsang were present at the meeting. Xi arrived in Hong Kong Sunday morning on a three-day inspection tour. |
