President Hu leaves for home after G8 outreach session

Updated: 2008-07-09 20:29 SAPPORO, Japan -- Chinese President Hu Jintao left for home Wednesday after attending the outreach session of the Group of Eight (G8) summit in the northern Japanese resort of Toyako on Hokkaido island. President Hu also attended a Major Economies Meeting on energy security and climate change later in the day. Representatives of Australia, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, South Korea and South Africa met with G8 leaders at the meeting. President Hu arrived in Hokkaido on Monday at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda to attend the outreach session of the G8 summit. The G8 groups Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States. The July 7-9 Toyako summit was dominated by discussions of issues such as the global economy, development in Africa, climate change and energy security. |
