RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva Wednesday designated Clodoaldo Hugueney Filho, an experienced negotiator in international trade, as ambassador to China.

Hugueney, currently Brazil's permanent representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, will also serve as the country's ambassador to Mongolia and North Korea.

Maria Elizabeth Farani Azevedo was appointed to take over Hugueney's position in the WTO.

Roberto Carvalho de Azevedo, currently head of the foreign ministry's economic department, was approved to be in charge of Brazil's diplomatic mission in Geneva.

Meanwhile, new Brazilian ambassadors to Japan, Mexico and Belgium, and the new consul-general to Washington D.C. were approved respectively.
