The reporting tour of the online media to Ningxia, with the theme of "a harmonious and glamorous Ningxia", kicked off on July 18, 2008 in Yinchuan. It's the fourth year in a row for the northwestern region to host such an event in a bid to promote its economic development, culture and tourism.
The first stop of the one-week tour is the China Hui Culture Center in Yongning County, where they get a closer look at the Hui ethnic group's culture and history.
During the next few days, reporters will enjoy the amazing coexistence of lake and desert at Shahu, a State 5A-class scenic spot in Shizuishan City; the breath-taking desert Shapotou in Zhongwei City is included in the schedule as well.
The tour will also focus on the aquatic ecosystems, rural infrastructure, rural cperative medi-care system and hui people’s education.
As China's only provincial-level Hui autonomous region, Ningxia accommodates one fifth of China's Hui ethnic group. The region will celebrate its 50th anniversary of establishment on September 23, according to Wang Rugui, mayor of Yinchuan.
