Tropical storm Kalmaegi leaves east China

Updated: 2008-07-20 16:03 HANGZHOU -- Scorching weather has returned to east China's Zhejiang Province on Sunday after tropical storm Kalmaegi left the region, with no casualties reported, according to the provincial weather station.
The flood control and drought relief headquarter of the neighboring financial hub Shanghai also announced that Kalmaegi had weakened as of early Sunday morning. The meteorological station of Shanghai lifted the rainstorms and gales alert for the city. Rainfall up to 41 millimeters hit Shanghai on Saturday. From Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday, heavy rainfall of up to 143 millimeters hit Zhejiang. The storm entered Zhejiang in the early hours of Saturday after it made landfall Friday evening in neighboring Fujian Province. Kalmaegi left 16 dead and 11 missing in Taiwan after it made a landfall near Ilan in the north of the island late on Thursday when it was a typhoon. |
