Residents complain demolition compensation in Beijing

BEIJING -- Three to five Beijing households met with foreign media Monday morning on the Qianmen Street (Qianmen Dajie), the city center, voicing dissatisfaction with government compensation for demolition of their houses.

While staff of a Japanese TV is shooting scenes in front of the Quanjude Restaurant, the largest roast duck restaurant in the city, some local residents arrived at around 10:30 a.m.

Later, reporters from the Associated Press and the Al Jazeera TV also arrived after hearing about the congregation, which caused a traffic jam as other people joined to watch the scene.

The police rushed to the site to maintain order. The crowd dispersed by around 11:00 a.m..
